Senior Veterinarian Specialist in Anatomic Pathology

Dr. Carolyn Stafford’s route to veterinary medicine demonstrates her steadfast commitment and enthusiasm for furthering the science of anatomic pathology. Dr. Stafford, who grew up in Northport, New York, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Connecticut College in 2001. Eager to follow her longtime passion of being a veterinarian, she earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Western University of Health Sciences in 2010.

After getting her degree in veterinary medicine, Dr. Stafford wanted to pursue additional training to further her knowledge and experience. Her career started in 2011 when she finished a demanding general internship program at the renowned Animal Medical Center. There, she gained extensive clinical experience and improved her diagnostic abilities.

Motivated by a strong interest in pathology, Dr. Stafford pursued additional training as a specialist intern at the Animal Medical Center’s Anatomic Pathology Department, exploring the intricacies of disease processes and diagnostic methods.

Dr. Stafford was determined to succeed in her specialty, so she pursued and completed a collaborative residency program with Cornell University and The Wildlife Conservation Society, which solidified her skills in anatomic pathology and broadened her understanding of disease across species.

In 2015, Dr. Stafford received board certification from the American College of Veterinary Pathologists in honor of her extraordinary accomplishments and services to the industry. This accreditation attests to her great knowledge and skill in the field of anatomic pathology.

Within the field of anatomic pathology, Dr. Stafford’s professional interests are broad and include dermatopathology, the pathology of avian and exotic animals, and the intriguing field of the gastrointestinal microbiome. She is a respected member of the veterinary community because of her commitment to quality and her passion to developing veterinary care.
